WaterBox 100

The WellSpring WaterBox 100 is a custom containerized water treatment system that is integrated into an intermodal shipping container

boxinternalThe WellSpring WaterBox water treatment systems are designed to provide clean safe drinking water from virtually any low TDS water source. The system is completely contained inside an ISO shipping container, making it easy to move, easy to install, and easy to operate and maintain. The WaterBox can provide from 100,000 to 300,000 gallons per day of clean, safe and fresh drinking water in even the harshest environments. WellSpring units can be deployed, installed and operating in hours instead of days or weeks.

The WellSpring WaterBox includes the following treatment technologies:

Back-washable Filter – The Wellspring line incorporates a compressed disc filter system followed by a media filtration system. This combination has proven most effective for removing large suspended particles that would interfere with or reduce the effectiveness of subsequent treatment steps. The filter automatically cleans itself based on differential pressure. Backwash frequency and duration are dependent upon the solids loading of the water source.

Disc Filtration specifications:
Disc Material: Polypropylene
Filtration grade: 50 microns
Backwash volume: 2.5 gallons
Backwash duration: 10-20 seconds
Backwash frequency: 30-60 minutes
Media Filtration specifications:
Flux Rate: 5-10 gpm sq. ft.
Backwash Rate: 14-18 gpm sq. ft.
Backwash duration: 10 minutes
Backwash frequency: 12-24 hours
Bed Depth: 36-40 inches

Chemical Treatment – Chemicals such as ferric chloride, oxidants or coagulants that aid in filtration may be injected to remove particularly challenging contaminants such as iron, algae, or colloidal suspensions. pH adjustment may be required which would allow mechanical separation equipment to operate effectively.

Activated Carbon – is used as a pretreatment step to the ultra-filtration system. The activated carbon is added to remove or reduce VOC’s, pesticides and herbicides, benzene, tannins, trihalomethanes and inorganic molecules such as radon, chlorine and other man-made chemicals found in water.

Activated Carbon specifications:
Flux Rate: 5-7 gpm sq. ft.
Backwash Rate: 14-18 gpm sq. ft.
Backwash duration: 10 minutes
Backwash frequency: 12-24 hours
Bed Depth: 36-40 inches
Operating pressure: 30-50 psi
Flow Direction Top down
Chemical Aid in BW Optional

Ultra-filtration – The ultra-filtration system is a hollow fiber module used to remove all suspended particles larger than 150,000 Daltons molecular weight. The UF membrane is effective at removing bacteria, giardia, and cryptosporidium and provides high quality effluent in a wide range of varying water sources. The ultra-filtration system operates in either the dead-end or cross-flow manner depending upon the solids loading and the nature of the contaminants. The backwash is chemically enhanced with chlorine to remove biological material.

Ultrafiltration System specifications:
Bacteria Removal 5 log
Virus Removal 4 log
Effluent Turbidity 0.06 NTU
Fiber Diameter 0.8 or 1.2mm
Flux Rate 50 GFD
Backwash Flux Rate 125 GFD
Max Temp. 104°F
Backwash Duration 30-60 sec.
Backwash Frequency 30-60 min.
Operating Pressure 50 psi
TMDP Range 2-20 psi
Max Turbidity 100 NTU

UV System – The ultraviolet system provides safe and effective disinfection prior to water distribution. The UV system also reduces the amount of chlorine required to maintain sanitization. The reduced amount of chlorine reduces the incidence of disinfection by-products, thereby increasing the duration of the sanitization cycle.

UV System specifications:
Dosing Rate 40mJ/cm2
Dosing Chamber 304SS
Operating Pressure 50 psi
Lamp “On” LED Yes
Lamp Intensity Yes
Replacement Lamp LED Yes
Lamp Wiper Yes
Audible Lamp Failure Yes

Distribution System – A storage tank, pump and distribution loop can be included in all WellSpring systems. Clean water is pumped through a loop to several distribution points located on the outside of the container. The loop maintains a constant cycle of water from the storage tank to the distribution points ensuring that distributed water is always fresh, clean and safe. The chlorine level of the distribution system is constantly monitored. The distribution system allows multiple users to individual access to clean water at the same time. The external valve is removed for transport.

Capacity, Size and Electrical Requirements – The WellSpring WaterBox comes in 20’ or 40’ standard ISO shipping containers. An electrical generator can be supplied with each unit or if on-site power is available the unit can be tailored to the local electrical specifications.
